fiction - brights_flame - Coast - drabble

Perched high atop an outcropping of crumbling basalt, the lighthouse has watched over the coast for generations. Countless ships have been turned away from the jagged rocks and treacherous reefs lurking just below the waves.

Vigilant, courageous, and dedicated, the latest lighthouse keeper braves a terrible storm to light the beacon and warn an approaching ship of the terrible danger. The ship changes course and makes a safe landing further up the coast. The lighthouse keeper is filled with pride at another job well done.

Unfortunately, the ship turns out to be the advance scout for an invading army. Oops.

I was dreadfully busy working on this and didn't have time to write something longer, so I thought I'd do another drabble. At least it's good practice for the drabble contests. = )

Hah! Such a short piece, yet full of imagery and even a twist? I liked it.

Good luck this week! Look forward to reading more from you.
