A Touch of Whiplash

On Wednesday, [livejournal.com profile] kaiwoklaw and I participated in a chain reaction collision. The pickup truck in front of us stopped and waited to make a left turn, we stopped behind it, and a lumina sedan stopped behind us. Then a jeep crashed into the lumina, which hit us and pushed us into the truck. Since we sort of got pushed under the back of the truck, the hood of [livejournal.com profile] kaiwoklaw's car bent and her headlights were shoved out of position, but the overall frame of the car looks like it's okay. There's some damage to the back where the lumina hit us, too. Not sure how severe the damage is, but it got towed away and some of her friends were kind enough to come rescue us off the side of the street.

I was fine for several hours after the accident, but as more time goes by my neck has gotten really sore. What am I supposed to do for whiplash - heat or cold? Ow.

Feeling snarky...

You say participated as though we had a choice in the matter...

"...were involved in..." just sounds so awkward, though. How about "had a chain reaction collision forced upon us" instead? = P

You seem to attract car accidents.

Note to self: do not ride with you

:P

At least you're pretty well okay, that's the important part.

I attract bad luck too, so we're both full of doom!

Not true! This last year has been a fluke! Before this, in 10 years of driving I'd only had that one other time someone ran me off the road.

It does feel as if I attract generic car misfortune, though. = (

Wait a minute, how do you know the misfortune was on you? Maybe the person in the jeep was cursed with lack of attention by an outside presence (not necessarily supernatural; someone on a cellphone, for example), and you and the other innocent drivers were accidental victims of the resultant f**k up. You must always take these things into consideration.

Eerie...it's like you were there! It's my understanding that the jeep guy was in fact on his cellphone and not paying attention. However, I don't see how that makes this less of a misfortune for us. Of everyone involved in the accident, we were the most upset by the whole thing. Considering that we were the only ones who had our car towed away, this seems rather appropriate, too.

I HATE people on their stupid cell phones. Who do they have to inanely chatter at while driving? I hope the Jeep driver was ticketed or something. He should be responsible for every single vehicle damaged during the accident. >:)

Anyway.. I posted to Kaiwoklaw that my co-worker suffered from similar neck pain. He went to a chiropractor and I believe it was paid for entirely by the insurance of the guy who hit me. So just keep that in mind - you should call his insurance agency and talk about seeing someone. How they get billed and whatnot.

It's not YOUR fault. You shouldn't have to pay and you shouldn't avoid treatment if the pain persists.

Yeah, I called them back, and they're sending [livejournal.com profile] hwango a medical claim form in case it gets worse. I was a little sore, but it's mostly gone, and some of that may have been from sleeping badly on a plane the day before.

Every time I see someone on a cellphone in a car now I think to myself "it's people like you that are the reason I'm in the mess I'm in now..."
