Oooh, Swirly!
I mentioned to
kaiwoklaw in an email a few minutes ago that I was downloading something "large* and inadvisable," and after that I would get on with meaningful things. Of course, I figured I would lose at least a little time to what I'd downloaded first, which is why it was inadvisable. I was downloading what I think of as a Time Wasting Engine - a game or other object that exists only to consume time. The object in question this time is Plasma Pong, which I will definitely have to play with again some other time when it isn't crucial that I make some progress on something meaningful. It's wacky. The Sandbox mode is very cool. Mmm...fluid dynamics.
* Large is a relative term. On a dialup connection, the 7.6 MB setup file represents a meaningful investment of time.

From the Readme file:
Plasma Pong is a variant of the popular PONG game, with a high tech twist – it uses computational fluid dynamics to drive the environment. As the game starts you will have to duke it out against the opposing paddle, using the fluid as your weapon. To do this you can shoot plasma out of the paddle to push the fluid around, which in turn pushes the ball around. Another weapon at your disposal is the ability to suction fluid back into your paddle. By doing this, possession of the ball can be controlled by the player. Once the ball is fully sucked into the paddle you can blast the ball across to the opposing player’s side.
