What the hell was I thinking?
Sep. 2nd, 2004 10:28 pmI bought a whole box of the Wrath of the Emperor expansion for L5R. At the time, I thought this would be the most cost-effective way of getting the cards in which I was most interested in the quantities that I desired. However, after opening the entire box, I'm left trying to figure out just what it was that I wanted so badly. I keep considering the cost of the box and weighing it against what I have sitting in front of me, and it doesn't even come close to evening out.
I could try to sell a couple of rather-sought-after cards on eBay, but there are a couple of problems with that idea. First is that it undermines the whole point of buying the box - which was to get some of these sought-after cards. Second is that, except for perhaps two or three cards, there really aren't any from the set that would get me much money - not enough to justify the annoyance of running an auction and shipping the cards out, anyway.
I'm hoping that once I get around to cycling the new stuff into my decks I feel better about buying the box, and that I actually get to use the cards. I don't get to play L5R much any more except at monthly tournaments, which makes the whole situation that much more frustrating. With the frame of mind that I'm in now, I doubt I'll buy Dawn of the Empire when it's released, even if it does contain all kinds of wacky fun stuff. If it's anything like my experience with Wrath, I just won't get enjoyment from it equal to its cost.
