People still read? Who knew?

I stopped by my local library today to see if I'd succeeded in putting myself on the wait list for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - I had tried to do it online, but my connection went wacky and I wasn't sure if I'd succeeded. So I went up to the desk, explained that I wasn't sure if I had a book on hold, and they checked. Nope, I'm not on the list for anything. So they put me on the list for it, and cheerfully told me that I am #64 on the list for it. "It must be written up somewhere," the librarian said to me. Hmm, yes, I suspect that it is. I asked for an estimate on when they thought my turn might come up, and she checked to see how many copies are in circulation so she could make an intelligent guess - since obviously if there's only one it will be quite some time. Considering that the book is 800 pages long, yes, it would take quite a while for it to be my turn if all 63 people before me are going to read the same copy. Turns out there are/will be 20, so things aren't quite so grim after all. About a month, maybe? We'll see.

Victorious Art

I didn't mention it here before, but I won the monthly VCL art competition for August. The topic was to draw a mix of a wolf and a rabbit, and the person who picked the topic liked mine the best. So, for the next couple of weeks there's a link straight to my gallery from the front page of VCL, and I got to pick the September topic, which still had to be a mix of two animals. We'll see how people do with the crocodile/tiger mix.

Damn you, Kyofu! Damn you to Hell!

So, some of you may remember my previous rant about Kyofu. The saga continues. I set up another trade for Kyofu, because, apparently, I can't take a hint from the Universe. This trade was arranged around August 30th. As of today, I have yet to have Kyofu arrive. I emailed the other guy, asking if he got my cards, and whether this was a normal delay for mail between the USA and France. I got my reply - he forgot to send the card, and yes, he did get mine. Aaaargh! So I guess it's a good thing I wrote to him to remind him that I exist, or it wouldn't have been mailed at all. Now I get to sit and wait some more and hope like hell that this time the card is not devoured by the post office or something. I swear, if I ever actually get the card it's going straight into my Shadowlands deck, which I will then use in every game of L5R until I manage to put the stupid card into play, at which point I shall shake my fist at the sky in triumph and laugh like a crazy person.
