NaNoWriMo is nearly upon us.
kaiwoklaw and I both agree that November is a stupid month to have it every year. The election threw a wrench in my plans last year, and Thanksgiving probably disrupts people somewhat as well. Why not January or February? Whatever.
I had thought I might try to do a sort of fake NaNoWriMo by working on my illustrated storybook (or novel version of same story), but later realized that I've already started work on it, so neither version would really be eligible. Instead, I have a moderately crazy plan that I think would be legitimate - I write my story from last year, The Ninth Source, from the viewpoint of the other side of the conflict.
I have the setting well developed in my mind, and I know most of the characters. Since I never finished the book, there's plenty of story left to tell. I always wanted to have large parts of the book told from the other side's viewpoint anyway. I've often wanted to work on the story over the last year, but never really got around to it.
So the goal will be to write a brand new 50,000 words of The Ninth Source material that can stand on its own. Then, once NaNoWriMo is over, I can consider combining the material from last year together with this year to make a 75,000+ word novel that tells a complete story from both sides of the conflict.
