Instead of being up late, I'm up again. I stayed up so late last night that I ended up going for a walk with my mom at 7:00 AM before going to bed. Slept fitfully into the afternoon, and then was a zombie the whole time I was up. Finally gave up a while after dinner and napped from 9:15 PM - 1:00 AM, and now I'm poking around at things, trying to make "Friday" have been meaningful, even though it's technically over. Poked at my D&D game a bit, and off to do some art next. I did play one game of Carcassonne first, but any other game I played tonight would have to be a letdown, since I won 361 to 102. I still feel a little guilty about the 90 point city and 42 point road that I stole from my opponent, though in all fairness I probably played 1/3 - 1/2 of the city myself in the process of stealing it. No hard feelings with my opponent, though. We chatted about how he/she (I never did ask, and his/her login wasn't gender specific) works teaching kindergarten in Germany in english and taught her American sister-in-law some german, and what the goods in the Carcassonne Builders expansion are supposed to me. The roll of fabric looked like a rooster to him/her, and he/she always thought the barrels of wine were full of honey. We decided the best thing the barrels could be full of is maple syrup, though.

I really enjoy playing with people in other countries on BSW - I just think it's nifty to be able to play board games against people who are hundreds if not thousands of miles away who don't share a language with you. There was one 3-player game in which one opponent was in Holland and spoke both english and german, and the other was in Germany and spoke only german. I used the babelfish translator to talk to the german player, and he complimented me on my german, so I confessed to using the translator website. He asked me for the URL and then spoke to me in slightly mangled english for the rest of the game. It's nice that even though the games I play require no actual talking with other players that we still make an effort to be able to chat with one another.

And on that note of international cooperation and friendship, now it's time to go draw a sleigh being crushed under the mighty heel of Cthulhu.
