The first slew of ads I saw looked exactly like the ones you described, and I planned to ignore the show completely. Then I heard a little more about it and saw a more interesting ad and figured I'd at least give it a try to see which ad campaign was more accurate. The first two episodes dealt more with personal drama and some political intrigue than anything I would think of as 90210ish. Ian McShane is very awesome as the king. There's some other good acting in it to, and I thought the pilot set up a lot of hooks for interesting future stuff.
I forgot to record the pilot, and had to watch it on Hulu, but I'm glad that I did. I'd say it was worth giving it a try - if you already hate it halfway through the pilot you can give up with relatively little time wasted. Without commercials the whole 2-hour pilot is only 1 hr 27 minutes anyway. Or you could wait and see if we actually get more than 2 episodes. = P
