hwango: (sadness)

On Tuesday morning I went to get an inspection sticker for my car. I tend to do this in the morning before I go to sleep (remember, I typically go to bed between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM) so I can avoid having to wait in line at the inspection place. So I set off to get there at 7:00, and by 7:11 I was on my way home with my shiny new sticker that said that my car in peachy keen condition.

Then, at 7:15, I got rear-ended and my car was totalled.

I hit my head on the steering wheel and my neck hurts, but otherwise I'm physically okay. I went to the hospital just to err on the side of caution, and that took several hours. This was on top of the couple of hours dealing with towing and whatnot.

I got to bed at 2:00 PM, 6 highly unpleasant hours later than I would normally go to sleep. Of course, I only got to sleep for 2 hours before I was awakened to be told that the car was officially totalled, and I needed to go empty it of stuff. Awesome.

In addition to the absurdity of having a valid inspection sticker for 4 minutes, there's also the new tires I bought about 2 weeks ago so I could pass said inspection. But wait, there's more - when I dug out the Title for the car so I could mail it off to my insurance company, I discovered that it was dated 9-21-05. That's right - I owned and operated my car for exactly 5 years.

So I am currently without transportation, which is frustrating. But I also feel strange that I know I'm not getting my car back. My other two car accidents (with my previous vehicle) both led to repairs. This time the car is just suddenly gone, and that feels weird and unsettling.

The other thing is that the previous two accidents were both cases where someone was driving the wrong way in my lane. The first was when someone passed a tractor at a corner and didn't see that I was coming in the opposite lane, and the second was some crazy guy driving the wrong way on the highway. In both of those situations I swerved and avoided the other car. In the first accident I hit a tree, and in the second I slammed into the concrete on the side of the road. This time, there was nothing I could do to try to avoid the crash - I just suddenly got hit from behind. And I think that's making me a little paranoid.

So, yeah. Not a great week for me so far. Dealing with paperwork and insurance companies, sorting through all the stuff I had in my trunk, and very soon the official hunting for a replacement car. Bleh.
