Happy Pangolin Day to all.
Dec. 8th, 2012 03:46 amApparently, the third Saturday in February is World Pangolin Day. I don't know how long this has been true, but my Pangolin Day has been December 8th for at least 20 years, so I'm betting mine is the original. So, Pangolin Carols and all that. I can't believe it's been about 3 years since I wrote one of those. Clearly, something I should have done this week. I think my favorite is still:
(To the tune of "Angels We Have Heard on High")
See these creatures sheathed in scales,
Resting here upon the ground
Safely curled up in their tails,
Armored forms wrapped up so round
O, Pangolins! Manis Gigantea
By night forage for a while,
Digging with their mighty claws
Sticky tongues so extensile,
bring ants to their toothless maws
O, Pangolins! Manis Gigantea
...yes, I took some license with the pronunciation for "extensile," but I don't care. It was just too perfect.
