William had been interviewing mystics and fortunetellers for days. Lady Esmerelda had been part of the carnival since his father had been running the show, and finding a replacement for her had been proving impossible.
The other applicants had all been disappointments for one reason or another. One rushed through the reading with no theatrical flourish whatsoever. Another had a voice that nearly put him to sleep. One had been a little too accurate in his reading. And not a single one had passed his final test - a tarot reading using his own special deck.
But Madame Zenobia had passed with flying colors, never once hesitating or breaking character as each new card was revealed, seemingly unfazed by cards she could hardly have been expecting. She was perfect.
Also, if the cards were to be believed, the killer was Colonel Mustard, on Baltic Avenue, with Yoyodium.
