Until April (or possibly May, I can't remember), I can't park on [profile] kaiwoklaw's street between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This makes it tricky to stay over. Last year I risked that they wouldn't strictly enforce the ban on days when it didn't snow, but managed to acquire a $25 parking ticket in the process. This Saturday I was going to leave before 2:00 AM, so I parked in the street behind another car, leaving a small but usable amount of space in front of my car so I could escape from the space even if someone parked behind me. Well, someone parked behind me - very, very close behind me. Good thing I left that space in front of me. So, I'm getting into my car at 1:58 AM, and I notice a piece of paper under my wiper. Obviously this can't be a ticket, since I'm not illegally parked for another 2 minutes. It turns out to be a note that reads "Please don't take up 2 spaces. Other people need to park here too." Now, what the hell? If I'd parked any closer to the guy in front of me, I would have been trapped in an illegal space until one of them left. Unless they thought that I parked first and the other guy parked in front of me, this makes absolutely no sense. Beyond the fact that I don't think I'm taking up 2 spaces, they're complaining that I'm taking up 2 ILLEGAL spaces.

Now I don't know for certain who left the note, but I guess it must have been the person who parked behind me. I wrote a reply on the back saying "Sorry, I didn't think I was taking up 2 - I left barely enough room in front of my car to get out. By the way, until April, it's illegal to park on this street after 2:00 AM."

I'm left very curious about whether I left the note for the right person, and how they'll react. I was a little annoyed by this, but mostly I was just confused. I'd really like to know how they saw things, and what line of thought would lead them to leave a note for me that contained so much nonsense.
