URU!

For the most part, I'm not really into computer games anymore. However, I greatly enjoyed Myst and its sequels. Now it turns out that there's a 4th game - Uru (I have no idea when this came out - it was just pointed out to me at random earlier today at Best Buy). It would be really cool to play Uru. However, I was barely able to run Exile when it came out, and I haven't updated my computer since then, so I meet not even one of the system requirements* for Uru. That makes me sad. I could probably use an update, since my computer is embarassingly slow, weak, and otherwise inferior to today's standards. The thing is, it's hard to justify getting a new PC just because the old one is slow and weak, unless there's actually some fancy new application that I need to run. Uru should not be that justification. That just feels wrong. Still, somewhere in the back of my mind I'm considering it.

* Okay, that's a lie. I've got the keyboard, mouse, monitor and CD drive. I lack the required OS, processor, RAM (only 64 short!), video card, sound card (well, maybe my card would be okay), and hard drive space.

Sub 500 PC's...

If you're willing to sell your soul to Wal-mart, (and your personal info to MS for WinXP) you can get a decent PC for around $500. We could also try the wholesale club sometime if you want to browse their selection.

Can't I sell my soul to Circuit City or something? Walmart doesn't seem like a good choice at all. The wholesale place might be good, but I'd be wary of buying a PC from somewhere that wasn't more devoted to such things. Still, it's worth a look.

I don't know about Circuit City, but there are at least a couple of online retailers you could look at. I would just do a search for sub 500 pc's.
