So, among LJ users and deviantART users, the consensus is...no, there really isn't a consensus. The majority like the more monochromatic one, so I put up that version, too. I don't think I should take both to GenCon, though. Maybe it's good to show two different takes on the same piece, but my gut reaction is that it's unprofessional to appear that I couldn't decide on a final version...which is, in fact, the case.

If I had to pick one, I'd pick the one with more colors, because that's the piece that I actually painted. The orange-y one may actually look better, but it almost feels like cheating, or something. Whatever.

Regardless, I hope that in either form, it's a good finished piece. I took a lot of the given advice, and fixed a few things that bothered only me, and I'm hoping that I didn't make something worse or break it in the process. Here they are:

Your work might also be a hit at Furrycon. The downside is that you'd also be subjected to things that should not be.

I like the changes. I think you're definitely being more true to the light source.

Yes...I think the Things That Should Not Be would take quite a toll on me, unfortunately. I can handle shoggoths in the basement and the byakhees in the attic really aren't that big a problem, but even I have my limits.

My sentiments precisely. It's a full time job just keeping my little sister (who's an animal freak, and thereby finds anthro stuff cute)from being exposed to the disgusting crap around.

GREAT work! I myself have alot of homage to Lions, being a Leo, being named Leon, and having the title of Lion as a christian.

By the way, Cotter. Did I mention I'm in love with your avatar? (FLCL rules(

Glad you like it - and you're definitely the most lion-oriented person I can think of, based on your listed associations. = )

Both?

You could always bring both to Gencon, but keep one secretly stashed in the back of your portfolio. That way, you'll have one to show, but the other one readily available in case you change your mind at the last minute while you're there.

You should probably also include some black and white or grayscale work. While CCGs want color, RPGs generall use 50 times more black and white pieces than they do color. Having both a color and a balck and white profolio ups your odds.

And don't forget, you can claim you worked on Rage!

I hope to do something nifty in black and white before I go. I'm certainly going to mention my work for Rage. = ) I might even put Azhar in my portfolio...it's my favorite of the pieces I've done for Rage so far.
