Last sputtering gasps

The plan was to drive out to see kaiwoklaw for the weekend...but the plan had to be modified a bit, such that she came to pick me up instead. I got onto the highway and the car began to rattle ominously and make an unsettling noise. I bailed out at the first exit and turned around, and it got me home, but even after I got it off the highway and was driving slower it doesn't sound like it's going to be okay. I had hoped to be able to drive around town even if it wasn't up for the 37 mile trek to Worcester, but I don't think so. I guess that's just about it for my poor, dying car. Time to intensify the search for a replacement.

For a second I read "bailed out" and pictured you jumping out of the car and rolling along the ground stuntman style. The car rolls to a safe distance and hits a jersey barrier exploding instantly!
