Work with the brain, not against it.

hwangoI should be working on art. Failing that, I should be working on my D&D campaign. However, neither of those things seem to want to work for me right now. Instead, my brain is currently aimed at Game #4, which has undergone a number of alarming mutations in its relatively short history. I'm afraid I may have to cut Paradox Sauce from it. I love the idea, but it's clunky and confusing and causes too many problems.
Also, I had one of those moments tonight when I realized that I was designing in something that Does Not Work. It's the same situation I had with my first game, when the scoring was based on how far across the board you placed your stuff. If things were in your front row they weren't worth much, so you were supposed to try to move or position things closer to your opponent, perhaps moving his stuff out of the way to do it...and yeah, if you think that through, you realize that moving your opponents stuff closer to yourself to make room for your own stuff, you make HIS stuff worth more points to him. It's all zero sum, and the scoring system simply Did Not Work. Oops. Anyway, this time it was a case of spending cards to create things to make money for you, then realizing that the exchange rate I was using for cards to money meant that you should ignore that whole system and just keep using cards instead of money.
Still, it's coming along. I have a bad feeling the whole thing will be a tangled mess that doesn't work, but I still hold out some hope. Of course, what I really should do is put the finishing touches on Game #1 before moving on to others, but at this stage the thing that really needs attention in Game #1 is the card layout and art for the board, and I'm just not in the mood for that right now. Bleh. One day, maybe my brain and I will manage to cooperate, and I can create something worthwhile.
