hwango: (sadness)

I removed my DVD drive and mailed it away for service. Tonight, I noticed that one of my hard drives has disappeared from my system. I can't help but suspect that the two things are related, but I've checked all of the cords and cables and everything still seems to be plugged in tightly.

All I did was take out the DVD drive, move the CD drive down a slot, and plug that in instead. I tried going through the whole "Install New Hardware" process after checking the cables, but it doesn't see it at all. It feels warm to the touch like the other hard drives, so I assume it's getting power anyway. Any thoughts on what I could possibly have done to kill or disable one of my hard drives, and how I can get it back?

It's probably an issue where the CD drive and the hard drive are both set up for secondary, primary, or incorrectly set up to automatically adjust. If I remember correctly your drive was set up as secondary. If you take the CD drive out there should be a diagram of the jumpers on the side. Set it to primary / master and try again! :)

Also as far as I know hard drives never show up under "Add new hardware." If you do not see it at the BIOS level then it is not connecting properly.
