Stone looks a bit too regular, expecially in the canyon. You needs some changes in elevation, rougher texture, etc, to make it stop looking like a quickly applied photoshop filter effect.

Creature itself looks faboo. One quibble, I'd give the mouth some sort of rough internal edge. Not teeth, but a few sort of slight bumps, ridges, to make it look more organic and like a mouth, which are pretty well never circular.

try looking at these pictures of a whale shark for mouth reference. See where I'm going with wanting a little more texture?

When I started work on the background, I expected to build some lumpy rocks on that flat texture and use it in the final. Eventually, it became clear that I wasn't going to pull that off, so this is definitely a placeholder background until I can freehand in some rocks instead.

Glad the critter is working well so far.

Wow, a whole bajillion! Either the new one is awesome or the old one must have sucked. = )

Seriously, glad to hear it's an improvement. My mom looked at them both for me, and unfortunately she prefers the first one because the critter stood out better. I tried to explain that I'm pretty sure the second one is still better art, but it was a little tricky trying to explain why. She doesn't care how much something is cheaty photoshoppedness.
