It's that time of year again - time for me to figure out which pieces of art to take to GenCon to show to game company reps while I use my spooky mental powers to compel them to commission me to create more art. I'd love advice from people on which pieces would be the best to take with me this year.

The cutoff point between what I took last year and what I made after GenCon is on that second page, at that hateful anthro lion, so the earliest piece up for consideration is the Scorpion Clan Samurai. I'm not sure I should take anything from earlier than that unless it's really awesome. Hopefully I've improved beyond stuff that old anyway, and I don't want to show people the same thing they saw last year either. I can still wear my sock-stealing bird t-shirt to show that off. = )

First of all, I'd say you should definitely bring at least one of your
Quest cards- I'm a fan of both the Flame Cloak and the Flower Lantern
in particular. While I don't think they are your absolute best work
or anything, they are good, and they show you can create to order on
short notice, something publishers look for. A weird monster or three would
seem like a good idea, given the crowd. I like the Sand Hunter,
the Obsidian Emissary, and the Storm King Eel. All creative, unique
looking, and with well done backgrounds. The Sand Hunter and Storm
King are also good in that they are dynamic scenes with more than
one player involved. For a slightly less weird monster (good to
show that you can draw them) I'd go with the Giant Radioactive Mutant
Dog. As an aside, I'm not sure what it says that a GRMD is one of your
less weird monsters, but I'm sure it says *something*. I also think
you should take at least one of your landscapes. Shard Crown Island
is both an excellent piece and one of the relatively few examples of
a building in your art, which would seem to suggest it's inclusion
for variety's sake. I'd also suggest the forest or the swamp, to
show your "I can draw trees!" skillz. Further, the light and
relfections in the swamp piece are pretty damn good. I didn't notice
anything that was black and white, or I would have suggested at least
one B&W piece; the enormous pile of gaming books I've got seems to suggest
a bigger market for B&W work than anything else.

Good luck,
~P.

Alas, black and white art is one of those things that's been on my to-do list for several months now, but was always pushed aside in favor of other things. If I get anything black and white done in the next week, I'll take it with me.

Hopefully I'll get the thing I'm working on right now done, too, and that will be worth taking.
