Over the weekend, I happened to visit my friend Laura M, and among the things we did to pass the time, we played a few rounds of Scattergories. When we did the letter "W" for the list that had "A Boy's Name" on it, the first thing that leapt to mind was "Waldorf." That sounded like a safe option, so I left it. When it came time to reveal our answers, I think the other people supplied "Warren" and "Wayne" or something. Laura then commented that no had decided to take a chance on the obvious one. I looked at her blankly. After a moment, she realized I wasn't going to get it, and in disbelief said "You know - your name?"
Wow. Not only did I not think of my own name immediately, but I didn't think of it even with some prompting. Is that normal? I was wondering if maybe that's just not the name that I think of as myself in my own head. I theorized that maybe since the identity I use most often in my daily ruitine is hwango (for email, LJ, and various other logins), that maybe that's taking up that slot in my brain. I don't know. Weirdness.
