Sometimes with Hat

I went to the Spoils Winter Constructed Championship in Milford this Saturday, and managed to place 2nd with my Deception/Obsession token-based deck. If nothing else, it features some of the cards in the game with the most exotic names. For those who like zany card names, there's nothing quite like playing your Hyperphagic Sarcophyle on turn 1, and following it on turn 2 with a Skimping Ecto-Manipulator and a Quotidian Assassination. I ended up playing the person who eventually placed 1st once in swiss and again in the finals, and didn't stand much of a chance in either game. After the tournament was over I managed to come up with some kind of crappy tactics that might have helped a little, but it would still be a really tough battle. His deck was crazy evil. I won my other games for the day, though, and my deck performed pretty much like it's supposed to. It was a good time overall - I had fun and was more than compensated for my entry fee with all of the nifty stuff I got (my 12 packs actually contained 2 of the 3 most sought-after cards in the game right now, plus a somewhat wacky card I've been trying to trade for), plus of course I'm now up to 6 out of 50 STE points.
Many of the prize levels included a hat, which I'm amused to note proudly displays the logo for the Winter Constructed Championship 2007, yet utterly fails to mention that it's for The Spoils. We were discussing said hat, and a bystander in the store joked that he had gotten the hat he was wearing by beating up a 9-year-old. After a brief pause in which I debated whether or not to utter the comeback that had occured to me, I eventually said, "did you have help?" This comment went over much better than I expected. In fact, it made such an impact that when I happened to walk near them again a few minutes later, I was greeted with "that really was an awesome comeback," which made the whole thing that much funnier.
