As I've mentioned in previous entries, I have from time to time browsed other Livejournals by interest, or via friends-of-friends. Many times, this leads to people whom I don't know talking about events in their lives. That's perfectly reasonable, of course. Sometimes, I find someone talking about something interesting, or making intriguing philosophical observations. That's often fun. However, there are also times that all I find are people who have posts such as "I hate my life. I hate all of you. I wish you'd all die." or some other such drivel, often including liberal amounts of profanity. I don't get this. Is it really that cathartic to yell at the people of the Internet in a forum in which they have specifically come to you looking for your thoughts? I mean, I can sort of see how posting to a public discussion forum that you hate everyone might be cathartic in some way, because lots of people are likely to see it. Not that I think it's a good idea, but I can understand it. But unless you truly want to tell people on your Friends list that you hate them, and that you also hate anyone who finds you via an Interest, discussion group, or whatever...I dunno, it just seems pointless. It's also annoying. "Hmmm, this person appears to be interested in lots of stuff that I'm interested in. And they've posted several intelligent, witty posts to a forum that I read. I think I'll go see what they have to say in their Journal. Oh. It turns out that they hate me. That's too bad." Oh well. I mean, everyone's entitled to use Livejournal for whatever purpose they find useful to them, but that particular use just kinda baffles me.
