I attended my cousin's wedding this past weekend. The ceremony was very nice, marred only slightly by the fact that it was outdoors and it rained on us. We were in a large tent, and the ushers didn't actually seat people because they were too busy escorting people from the parking lot to the tent with umbrellas. Still, both bride and groom seemed very happy, which was nice. I once attended a wedding at which both members of the couple looked miserable. I don't know if they were tired, or stressed, or if something had gone wrong earlier in the day, but it was weird to watch. Anyway, things were much more cheerful this weekend. The justice of the peace who was presiding was asking the bride if she promised to do all of the usual things, and after she said "in sickness and in health," the bride jumped the gun and said "I do," then the justice finished saying "for so long as you both shall live," and the bride said "I do" again. It was cute.

I was seated with fun people at the reception - [livejournal.com profile] kaiwoklaw went as my guest, and we sat near my uncles David and Eric who are fun and crazy people. We were discussing the fact that many of the photos taken were digital, and that it might make creative editing of them easier. Since the wedding was held outside of a castle, I mentioned that I hoped some of the pictures will have the castle in the background so we could add people laying seige to it. David suggested using footage from Lord of the Rings, which I thought was an excellent plan. Not that we actually plan to do any of this - it's just amusing to contemplate. "I don't remember Frodo being at our wedding!"

Someone at our table was full from appetizers and soup and whatnot by the time the main course came, and so she was offering off all of the bits to other people. My brother took her piece of chicken, and one of my uncles took the mashed potatoes. I said I wanted her leafy garnish thingamajig. This led to everyone at the table giving me their garnish. I piled them all up on my plate and cackled triumphantly at my monopoly of garnish.

The only down side to the whole thing was that it was very loud. Too loud for me. I've noticed that I'm more sensitive to loud noises in the past couple of years, and by the time they were playing songs for people to dance to it was way too loud for me. I retreated into the lobby now and then to let my brain recover a bit. I didn't really care for most of the songs played either, which was too bad - just not my genres of music. Ah well, as long as the bride and groom and their friends had fun, that's what matters.
