Mostly I'm thinking out loud about Brettspielwelt, so here's advance notice that this is probably incredibly boring.

Okay...clearly those early wins at San Juan were against opponents who were as new to the game as I am, and I think I've also been a bit tired for some of the games since. My record sank badly from 60% wins to 20%. I realized during my last couple of games that it's more like Puerto Rico than I thought, particularly if you build certain buildings, and I kept handing people just what they needed when I took certain jobs. In a 2-player game, if during a turn that I get 2 jobs I take Producer and Trader while they take Prospector then I produce and sell one more good than they did...but that probably only makes me 1 or 2 dubloons more than they got, and they make 1 from being prospector. So I'm not doing much better than they are, and I used 2 jobs. Bleh. I tried to adjust for that during the last couple of games, but I think I was too tired for those, since I kept making some other errors...including failing to notice how close one game was to ending. Those were also my first 3 player game since the first time I played, and my first 4 player game, so there was a bit of an adjustment there anyway.

On the other hand, I'm getting the hang of playing Carcassonne online, and adapting to the more agressive "Glom to Win" strategy that seems to be required there. I finally won a couple of games of that, so I'm up from 0% to 40%. Both of those wins were due to farmers. I wonder if most people I've played online are so bent on stealing cities that they pay less attention to farming. My games in real life have always had much more competition for farming and less theft of cities, which of course leads to more small cities and more reason to vie for farming control in the first place. Odd.

I noticed that Princes of Florence is available on the site. I've really wanted to play that one in real life, but maybe if I never get around to borrowing it from the SFS I can just try it online, if I can find some players who don't mind trying it with a total newbie. I'm afraid playing it through the interface might add a bit more learning curve, but at least I'd get to try the silly thing.
