hwango: (hermit crab)
For some time now, I've been wanting to see the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, Conqueror of Shamballa. As much as it would be nice to own the whole series in one format or another (I taped all of the regular episodes off of Cartoon Network), I thought it would be nice to actually see the movie before buying it, in case for some reason I turn out to hate it. I thought about renting it, but that would take the effort of tracking down a rental place that owned it, signing up for a rental card, and so on. My latest plan was to cash in the free trial of Netflix and order it through that, though I wanted to make a list of other movies to request as well so as not to waste my one-time trial period.

I could have sworn that I had checked the local library consortium to see if by some chance there was a copy in circulation, and had come up empty. However, I checked again a few minutes ago, and they either got one since then, or I must have made a typo in my search. I'm #5 on the waiting list. Whee! It will be nice to finally see it, and for free no less.

I've been pleasantly surprised in the past by the depth of material available through the consortium, but I'm amused to see that it's not just the consortium that owns a copy of the Fullmetal Alchemist movie - it's my local library itself. You rock, CPL.

Also, I'm delighted to be only #3 in line for the collection of Susanna Clarke short stories that I stumbled across in Borders yesterday. When I first thought of trying to borrow that from the library I had flashbacks to a couple of years ago when I was #62 in line for Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, though even that only took a month or two what with the multiple copies spread across the consortium.
