We tried Arkham Horror again. This time we pitted ourselves against Azathoth, since he seemed like he would be a bit easier to defeat - we'd have more time to win by closing/sealing gates, during the game he doesn't do much to annoy us except boost the power of maniacs, and if we blew it and he woke up then we wouldn't have to suffer through the torment of fighting one of the Great Old Ones - we just get obliterated right away. We also picked our own characters this time. I took the Photographer, since his ability seemed cool.
Almost right away, things went poory for me. I got a skill that was worthless to me, a magic book that was useless to me, and my retainer went foop on my second turn. I didn't get to use my special ability as often as I liked, but it was often very useful, so I'd be willing to try it again. Probably not next game, though - I should try someone different. I think I'd like to try him again sometime, though.
Anyway, we had some very bad luck and some very good luck - the events we hit were either really good or disastrous - very little in between. We had a run of Monster Surges that meant there were relatively few open gates, and we had some very fighty characters who could take care of all the critters, so we actually managed to get ahead of the gates, get them all closed, and send Azathoth packing. Whee!
