hwango: (evil smile)
Edited: 3 hours ago, this was my post to complain about the nightmare 3 days I have spent accomplishing absolutely nothing because I've been spending all of my time trying to free my computer from the iron grip of the Virtumonde malware. Because I have a slow internet connection, downloading each anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-whatever piece of software that I was going to try next consumed a great deal of time. Some failed partway through and had to be restarted or abandoned completely. I made a couple of trips to the library to download particularly large install files to a flashdrive.

Then of course there was the time lost to the scans themselves. I have a lot of files. Typical scans took over an hour each. They would all report back some number of hideous problems, and then claim to remove them. They lied. Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware both identified Virtumonde and said they killed it, and both did no such thing. Some of the other tools I tried didn't even find it in the first place.

At last, I have found salvation - Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware has earned my eternal gratitude. No ad pages have popped up since it appears to have successfully cleansed my machine. Ad Aware didn't find Virtumonde when I ran it again. Let us all keep our metaphorical fingers crossed that this was indeed a permanent solution to this problem so I can get on with my life again.

Finally, I'd just like to say that people who write computer viruses should be sliced open and forced to eat their own intestines.

There's actually a pretty decent variety this year. Art, gaming, writing, other real-life activities...not bad.

I came pretty close to last year's count for art. I also have a bunch of unfinished pieces that had to be pushed aside for things that were needed sooner, too, so I can add a little imaginary padding to the count. Slightly more of the art this year was assignments instead of just stuff I felt like painting, which is a good sign.

I finally did some writing! I'm so glad I decided to participate in the Brigits_Flame activity. A lot of those were fun to write, and it's been a great motivator.
