"Congratulations, supporting character - you've been promoted."

"I what now?"

"You're the hero now. Here, take this character development, tragic history, and noble purpose. You'll need them."

"Whoa, hold on! I don't want any of that! I'm happy just the way I am. I like providing expository dialog. I enjoy the occasional comedic mishap. Why would I want all the responsibility of being the hero?"

"The series is ending. Either you take the promotion and get your own spin-off, or you fade into oblivion with the rest of the story."

"...hand me that tragic history."

*applause*

Brilliant and unusual ... as usual! I really like how you think :)

This made me laugh. I love it when authors break the 4th wall and poke fun at stereotypical writing techniques.

Not to worry - I appear to still accept anonymous comments. Glad I could amuse you. = )

This was different, clever, very funny. :D I'm intrigued by the spelling of "dialog" - is this a US thing?

[identity profile] hwango.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks - and I suppose that must be a spelling more typically found over here. I take it you more often see it as "dialogue?"

[identity profile] thorarosebird.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, and "analogue" is another one that pops up when I'm reading BF entries. :P

[identity profile] hwango.livejournal.com 2010-10-12 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This dates back to the early days of the USA, when we had a terrible "u" shortage, and were forced to carefully ration them. As a consequence, they were removed from many words in which they were deemed less important, such as "armour" and "colour," and obviously "analogue" and "dialogue." Maybe if we had decided to name ourselves the Coaligned States of America or some other non-U-requiring name this terrible butchery of words would not have been necessary.

I'm usually not a great fan of drabbles, but I enjoyed this one! I can see why your character prefers having a role in the background.... :-)

Thanks! Yeah, it sounds like the old job was a lot nicer, doesn't it? = )

This is very interesting -- a much different take than I've seen for this prompt, both in style and in subject matter. So kudos to you for taking on something new and different!

[identity profile] hwango.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks - I suppose it was odd to write about "hero" without any actual heroism going on, wasn't it? = )

[identity profile] belluminabyssus.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed! XD

I Love it! It was short but sweet and that was perfect. No need for messy descriptions, this was perfect. It made me laugh and that was just what I needed. Brilliant.

Thanks! - always happy to make people laugh. On purpose, at least. = )
