I have to say I love the way you opened this. I could actually relate to how Hatter was feeling...including the needing to be stealthy in the dark but not being able to. Then, after the last line all I could think was "Whoops."
The spiders remind me of the scene in Harry Potter where Ron and Harry go in search of Aragog.
It left me with one of those corner of the mouth smirks and a chuckle, which is always a good way to be left. Thank you for sharing! :-)
