hwangoTonight's session of Exalted kind of sucked. All but two people showed up at a reasonable hour, but I didn't want to start with two people missing. It turned out that one person was expected to be late due to unavoidable issues, but that didn't explain the other person, who has become increasingly and depressingly unreliable. I think it got to be 8:30ish, and it seemed like neither might be coming - I like people to get there close to 7:00, so we can start at 7:30 if at all possible. Anyway, we decided to try to resolve a couple of comparatively minor things so the whole evening wouldn't be wasted. Almost immediately after we decided this our 5th player showed up, which was fortunate timing. By that point, though, I'd kind of lost my enthusiasm for running the game. We stumbled through some stuff and eventually managed to arrive at a combat situation a few minutes before a couple of people usually like to leave. Rather than get part way through the fight and have to stop, we just paused there.
I like to pay better attention to non-combat activities, so I feel badly that the social bits we addressed this evening were sort of flat. I probably should have just skipped running it completely, but some people drive quite a way to get there, and I hate to make the trip a total waste. Still, it turned out to be about an hour and a half of pretty lifeless gaming. Not much of an evening.
Following that we had a 3-way L5R game with some of my decks that incorporate Hidden City. Maybe my Mantis deck will crumple up and die against real tournament decks, but it turned out to be a horrifying death machine against a couple of my other decks. I launched one attack against it which I "won," in the sense that my army had more force at the end of the battle. However, during that battle I lost 5 personalities and a weapon, and my opponent lost 1 personality, kept his province, and increased the number of cards in his Fate hand. Eek. At least I know the deck works the way it's supposed to - enter battle, inflict massive casaulties, and then run away.
