I don't normally like to discuss politics, but I really feel a need to say something right now. I had the misfortune to have to listen to some of the Republican National Convention this evening, which was on at high volume in the next room. It frightens me how many people at the convention seem to seriously believe that it is in the best interests of our country to ignore the international community when deciding international policy. The convention portrays the entire Republican party as a group that wants to protect the world from itself, but without the world having any say in the matter. It sounds as if they want the USA to be a democracy, but for the USA to be dictator of the world. That frightens me, and I don't think that attitude will make our country safer. Maybe we had enemies in Iraq, but I wonder how many more enemies we made when we invaded without the support of the UN.
