I got an email today from someone who wrote to say that they visited my website and enjoyed reading my short stories Covers and Guardian. This was a nice surprise, because most of the visitors to my website who write to me are usually writing to comment on the alternative holidays or my artwork.

I haven't written any fiction for quite a long time. I had been considering trying National Novel Writing Month this year, and this made me think about it again. I'm not sure, though - that's a lot of time to spend not working on art, and my portfolio still isn't worthy of submission, yet. It's something to dwell on further, I guess.

Ack! I thought NaNoWriMo was November, but it turns out to be October! That might make my decsion for me...I don't even have an idea that I like, yet, and it starts in three days.

I'm not sure working on my art is really 'guaranteed' to produce worthwhile results. I need to organize my priorities better, though, and I think I should probably put art above trying to writing a novel in a single month. I suppose I could try to do both - work on the novel when I have artist's block. I probably wouldn't finish the novel in the month, but I'd have something to show for my time, at least.

If only pictures were worth a thousand words for the NaNoWriMo word count - I could illustrate mine and meet the target word count after all. = )

If you're considering NaNoWriMo as a way to get yourself working on your story, then I'll make you a deal - I'll sign up and put some time into it if you do as well.
