Memory Lane

hwangoFor about four years now, I've been carrying an old Macintosh Plus around in my trunk. This wasn't something that I set out to do - a neighbor was going to trash it even more years ago, and I thought it would be fun to snag it, see if it still worked, and play Beyond Dark Castle a couple of times. This plan was thwarted by the fact that we have nowhere in our house to even walk in a straight line, let alone a place to set up an obsolete computer. The Mac lived with someone else for a while, and then when they moved, it went into my trunk, where it stayed, simply because I had nowhere else to put it.
Every once in a while, I remembered that it was in there, but couldn't think of anywhere else to put it. Recently, I decided that multiple years of alternately baking and freezing in the New England weather had probably destroyed it, and I should just dump the thing at the next hazardous waste disposal day. First, though, I had to see if it might actually work.
Wow. Back in the 80's, Apple built their stuff to last. I can't believe such an ill-treated piece of electronic equipment actually worked, but it did. It was neat to play BDC again. Mmm...nostalgia.
