Brooklyn?

So, I placed 2nd out of 14 players in Sunday's tournament, losing only 2 of my 7 games. Now I need to figure out if it's worth trying to get to Brooklyn next weekend to play in the rather larger tournament they're running there. Entry fee is an alarming $30, but prizes are as follows:

1st: $2000
2nd: $1200
3rd - 4th: $800
5th - 8th: $400
9th - 16th: $250
17th - 32nd: $100

So if I can figure out how to get to and from Brooklyn for $70 or less, I can break even or end up ahead as long as I place in the top 32. No, I have no idea how many people they'll actually get. I'm considering this more than I was before, but I'm still not sure it's really worth the trouble and expense.

You can get there with money to spare if you take the Chinatown bus. Typically, they're about $15 each way.

We've taken Fung Wah bus to NYC once. It's not luxurious, and you'll want to have a good map of NYC with you. Reserve ahead of time - they do seem to sell out.

Here are the two companies I know of:
Lucky Star: http://www.luckystarbus.com/
Fung Wah: http://www.fungwahbus.com/ticket/

There's more info here: http://www.chinatown-bus.com/index-1.htm

Fung Wah sounds like it's had some safety problems of late, and Lucky Star doesn't have a bus between 2:00 AM and 7:00 AM. The 7:00 will get me there too late, but 2:00 AM will get me there 2-3 hours early. = P Not looking good so far. Thanks for the info, though.

Another option you could consider:

It's expensive by comparison with Fung Wah but on a par with Amtrak, and you'll get to NYC in comfort and ease.

Another option to investigate would be to look into last-minute airline fares. You can generally get to NYC round-trip for $100 or less.

You could drive down the day before and sleep in your car somewhere outside the city. (^_^) You'd probably end up spending the $70 in gasoline but you might not have to worry about a hotel. There are tolls though so you'd want some extra cash onhand.
