hwangoIt's time for the next season's Invitational Qualifiers for The Spoils. I missed the first week's qualifier tournament, but managed to make it to the 2nd one, which was held this Friday. We had 8 people, which is a new record. In the past we've had 3 of us and had to conscript someone from the store to be our 4th player. I ended up going undefeated and winning the day, so I'm qualified for the next Invitational already. Whee! Also, I won a shiny new foil Embezzling Bookkeeper, which is a pretty cool prize in its own right. After winning 2 of 3 qualifiers last season and the Invitational itself, I seem to have acquired a reputation for "winning all the time." This reputation built in strength as the night wore on and I continued not only to win each round, but also be the first match to finish.
Initially, I was somewhat disappointed with my pool of cards, but realized that if I was very lucky I could do some delightful things with my Thief Doyen or Ferrous Ferret and the Arcanist cards that would give them more tokens. In particular, Ecological Hazzard Suit would have doubled either of them in size. I never did get to pull off that particular trick, but it turns out I didn't need to. I also had a lot of covert guys to choose from, with the extremely dangerous Ominous Oozling topping that list.
3 out of 4 games, Thief Doyen was a major player on my side of the table, and the Ferret was instrumental in 2 of those games as well. Ominous Oozling mangled a couple of people, and in another other game it was the card I discarded to make my Thief Doyen a 7/7/3 wrecking machine. So three cheers for tokens, ooze, and ooze-powered tokens.
