It's that time again - actually that time may have been a few days ago, but whatever - which pieces should I take to Gen Con this year? Everything from "Self Portrait" to Agressive Agenda is new this year, so that's what I'm mostly drawing from for portfolio pieces. I still plan to take the hermit crab in skull and some of the landscapes for people who haven't seen them before, but most of the other stuff should really be new stuff.

Yule Squid. Nice background plus if you're going to see Chaosiam at any point, they love them a good squid.

Mokole Tail Lash- it's the most polished of the action pieces from this year.

Kolya Homid- He's a bit on the boring side compared to the other pieces since its just a head shot. But boy do a lot of game books make use of headshots for NPCs. It's a great example of that staple especially since it's of an older man, so stands out from the usual parade of 'hot anime lad'. If you'd like, since we have time to do it for once, I can run off a bunch of Kolya's and send you laminated ones to hand out. He does look nicer at the smaller size.

I'd include a composite sheet (but not hand out prints) of the 3 Shadowfist pieces and the 4 older Quest cards. Put them all down to card size, stick 'em on a single sheet and note on the page that they were paid work for Shadowfist and whatever the other company was. That indicates you HAVE worked on deadline and gives the CCG publishers a clue what your work looks like at final size.

Since you have a little time before GenCon, I would suggest doing at least one black and white or grayscale piece. The CCG publishers want full color, but the RPG publishers, 99% of what they need is black and white and grayscale. A piece or two of greyscale or black and white greyscale will probably help you land some more gigs by showing them you do those two.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm working on a samurai piece to aim specifically at L5R right now, but I'll try to do something black and white as well if I can. I'm mad at myself that I failed to make anything black and white for this year AGAIN, but maybe I can manage something last minute.

And thanks very much for the offer to print up some Kolyas - I'll email you my address.
