One of my cousins got married on Saturday, in a ceremony as unique as the couple themselves. The couple sent out wedding invitations that pitched the event as "The Wed-in: A Matrimonial Exposition. Featuring: (their names)." Dress code was listed as "Concert Casual," meaning we were all supposed to wear our favorite concert t-shirts. The groom wore a t-shirt with the invitation printed on the front and a guest list on the back formatted as if it was a list of venues for a concert tour. During the actual ceremony he wore a coat over it that he had made himself, but that was a bit too warm to wear the rest of the day. The bride wore a wedding dress quilted by herself and some of her friends. After the short cermony in open space in their back yard, we picked up our chairs and moved under the canopy for lunch...a clever way to save on the number of chair required. Seating was assigned not by table number, but by Grateful Dead album name. The wedding cake was actually several cupcakes on a multi-level platform. After lunch the open space where the ceremony took place was used for hula-hooping. I've never seen anyone hula-hoop in a wedding dress before.

Truly, the only downside to the whole event was the 100 degree weather and the fact that I was dreadfully tired, having slept very poorly the previous night. Still, we got to be in the shade most of the time, and it was certainly a lot more fun than a normal wedding.
