Arkham Horror - Game 1
Jun. 16th, 2008 01:35 amWe tried our first game of Arkham Horror. As we feared it might, it took us almost 5 hours to play. I brought along a couple hours of Controlled Bleeding's spooky ambiant music for mood music, but of course that ran out before we finished. I'll have to see if I can find some more spooky stuff to go with it to fill out the extra time we need. Maybe some older Delerium.
Anyway, in the end we were all eaten by Yig, and so the fabric of the space-time continuum ruptured, and all mankind suffered for our failure - seriously, that's what the rules say happens if you lose. Oops.
We randomly handed out characters, and I was the nun. My very first turn I stopped by the Silver Twilight Lodge and they hit me up for a membership fee. Having taken a vow of poverty, I of course didn't have the money, and so they beat me up and threw me into the street, knocking me unconcious. I woke up in the hospital with my cross missing. Not a good start.
Eventually I acquired an ally who boosted my speed and a magic rock that boosted my movement, allowing me to pretty much travel from one end of Arkham to the other in a single turn, and we determined that I must have been the Flying Nun. I was also amused to randomly be assigned the Fight skill and a spell that gave me more bonuses in combat, so I was a flying nun who knew kung-fu...or something.
All in all it was good time even if Yig did awaken and consume us all. But man, that game is HARD.
