Eventide Prerelease

hwangoNot many people compared to just about every other prerelease I've been too. Maybe worse than Coldsnap, and that was pretty bad. I had a lot of fun, though. I played in one flight on Saturday and one on Sunday. Saturday I was undefeated until round 4 but for some reason still went for the intentional draw in Round 4 and got 6 packs. We played one game to see how it would have gone and I stomped on him...he just didn't draw much of anything useful. I looked at his deck after we were done, and it some pretty scary stuff. It wasn't surprising that he was also 3-0. Then he went to sign up for the next flight, so we didn't get to see if best of 2 out of 3 would have made a difference. I ran Green/Red and my deck had some nasty creatures, some combat tricks, and a bit of damage-based red removal. I was in trouble if they got any critters bigger than mine and I didn't have a combat trick in my hand, but I always managed to pull through.
Sunday I was once again undefeated until round 4, and this time decided to play it out...and lost, of course. 4 packs for a 3 win/1 loss record. I ran Black/White with all alarmingly small creatures, but many of them flew. This was backed up by some terrifying removal - 2 Fire at Will, 2 Recumbant Bliss, Curse of Chains, Torture, and Unmake, plus the semi-removal creatures Duergar Assailant and Gwyilion Hedge Mage, and tappers Somnomancer, Silkbind Faerie, and Ballynock Trapper, and even Ashlying, the Extinguisher. The 2 games at the end that I lost were a combination of really good stuff on his side, him playing it well, and me getting glutted with land in Game 3. = P I made a mistake or two in both games, but in the long run I'm not sure they would have made a difference.
