I met Rebecca Guay at a signing at TE in Worcester on Saturday. She was really nice, and seemed genuinely happy to be out meeting fans and such. I asked her if she had any advice for someone trying to break into the field, and she told me not to be discouraged by rejection - that I'll be rejected countless times before I get work, and that even established, well-known artists get turned down from projects all the time. That's definitely good to know. I know I'm going to have a hard time handling the rejection, but I think hearing from a successful artist that it's inevitable and survivable was helpful. I brought some cards illustrated by her with me to get them signed, but I wish I could have brought some of my other favorites. I really like her art on Holistic Wisdom, but I've only got one copy of it, and I figured her signature might obscure too much of the text. Indeed, she signed cards with an enormous black marker that obliterates almost everything in the text box, so I probably made the right decision, there.

I finally got my packs of Heaven and Earth for L5R. I got strange, strange sorting of commons and uncommons - several of some and none of others. If it weren't for the cards I already have from the prerelease I'd be missing several common personalities - and I'm still missing some of those. However, all complaints are to be consider minor, because I actually pulled both of the new rare Scorpion personalities. I was down to 3 packs left when I got the first, and was astounded to have it immediately followed by the other. Bayushi Tai's experienced version is just amazing. The ability to retreat from a battle if it goes badly while leaving a decoy personlity to maintain Presence even if he was the only one there, great stats for his cost, and I can even retrieve him with Boundless Sight because he's Experienced. Doom! He was easily the card I wanted most from those I'd seen in previews.

Urg - I'm awake and 'putering at 4:30 AM again. I've got to stop this. Of to bed for me, I guess.
