Yoshimi Battles the Black and White Robot
May. 1st, 2003 04:17 amSarah's very fond of the new Flaming Lips album, and in particular the song "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots." I've heard it a few times, and it's strangely catchy, and amusingly weird. Of course, I'm currently listening to The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, so I'm not really one to talk about amusingly weird. Anyway, she asked me not long ago to draw/paint something for her to put on her wall, so for our anniversary on Tuesday I painted her a woman facing off against a giant robot in the middle of a city street. Of course, Sarah's not crazy about pink, and I didn't want to present her with a painting that featured lots of pink, so I did the whole thing in black and white. I'm reasonably happy with how it came out, and it was fun to paint again. It was also nice to fully take advantage of the mixed-media options open to me, as I used my scanner and Photoshop to make alterations to rough sketches before painting the final piece.
We're discussing fragmenting the gaming group again, though I'm still pushing for the less drastic solution of having people just leave one game, rather than actually splitting into two totally seperate groups. I think that's more what the rest of the group is looking for as well, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. It would be a shame to lose anyone from Exalted, but in the long run it might be more fun for everyone if there are fewer players. Maybe we can rotate people back in later or something.
cotter_salem made a good point that Thursdays don't really allow for much gaming, and that's when I run Exalted. Maybe we'd be able to start more promptly and get in more actual gaming with fewer people to organize. Here's hoping. Sometimes I wish I had a Sunday slot, where we have at least twice as much gaming time, but I suppose that would demand more time from me as a Storyteller, so perhaps its for the best that my game is on Thursday.
Ah, the Math Song. I love the Math Song. It's so ridiculous, and yet so true. The lyrics are full of mathematical calculations, and it features the chorus that "You've got a brain, and nobody really needs another love song." It's true that tons and tons of popular music seems to be about love/relationships/sex/whatever, and it's not very original to hear yet another song on that theme. Not that we really need a song about math, either, but in its own way it is a pretty refreshing change. Of course, the album also features their own twisted take on the love song, with The Innsmouth Look. Another favorite.
