Well, not actually Seppuku. However, earlier this evening I discovered that I had email about my web site, Crawling Chaos. It turns out that I've got a broken link on the site that's supposed to lead to one of my pieces of fiction. The link must have been broken for a long time, which means that either no one has tried to read that story, or no one has tried, failed, and then cared enough to contact me about it. Neither of these possibilities is terribly cheerful. Also, It's embarassing to have failed to notice the missing page for so long. However, it's wonderful that someone actually did read some of my stories, and was even interested in one of them enough to email me about it when it turned out to be missing. Yah! So no Seppuku.

Speaking of Seppuku, I tried out my two newest L5R decks earlier tonight. These weren't updates of my basic decks for each faction, but new and terrifying creations that try to stand on their own without borrowing from the "main" deck for their clan. The Crab one, which I call the "Really Great Walls of the Kaiu" is my first deck that sort of tries to win via honor rather than military. However, it's got a sneaky destructive side that is poised to be unleashed when people try to attack and destroy me before I can honor out, so it's still sort of military. The name comes from the fact that the Stronghold is the Great Walls of the Kaiu, and that I'm trying to win via honor gained from Fortifications, while defending myself with even more Fortifications. So it's supposed to be a wall so impressive that it wins the popular support of the people of Rokugan. It's silly. It also performed much as it's supposed to, boasting province strengths ranging up to 17 before the use of Importune Kami, which is also floating around in there. That was another sort of ironic thing - having a Poorly Placed Garden in a province with a strength of 17. Doesn't seem that poorly placed after all.

The other deck was an attempt to use the Shadowed Tower of the Shosuro. I need to gradually work myself away from the Towers of the Yogo, which will almost certainly leave us in Diamond Edition. We'll be stuck with the Shadowed Tower. Blech. On the plus side, it allows access to the personalities with higher honor requirements, doesn't fear Dishonor as much, and does wacky political things. On the down side...the Yogo Towers are just awesome.

Anyway, it kinda flopped on me. I tried to do things that were complicated and ineffective, I think. The Really Great Walls did well because it's based on a crazy plan that can actually work. Shadowed Tower tried to do too many things, and exerted a lot of effort towards effects that really aren't worth the time and resources that I devoted to them.

Part of the problem is that I tried to include an enormous number of ways to start duels, at the expense of reliably winning the duels. Test shuffles were much more forgiving about supplying items with Chi boosts and whatnot, but the actual game left me with plenty of duels to start, and little chance of winning them. Oh well.
