The Loss of Bushido
Dec. 21st, 2003 12:58 amWhile I was at the local movie theater on Wednesday, I spent some time looking at the large film promotion thingies that are displayed on the walls. Among them was a large poster for The Last Samurai, with a scoll hanging on either side of it. The scrolls listed the ideals of Bushido, and explained the role of each one in the life of a Samurai. I thought they were nifty, so I decided to ask at Customer Service what would happen to them when the movie leaves the theater. The woman behind the counter informed me that they have to destroy all of that stuff.
I thought that was a terrible shame. I wrote to National Amusements to see if they could explain this, and it turns out that all of that stuff is the property of the studios that release the films, and that it's all destroyed to prevent anyone from profiting from its resale.
The irony here is that my attempts to save the code of Bushido from destruction are being foiled by the studio that released a film about men trying to save the code of Bushido from destruction. = (
