Well, the agonized waiting is over. The results for Twilight week were delayed a few days, and I kept checking my email with my fingers crossed, but finding no word about it would assume that I hadn't won again, and would go to to the White Wolf page to look for the winner...only to find that it wasn't announced, yet. So that spark of hope would stay alive. Finally, the results are up, and the winning piece is not mine, but is seriously cool and deserved to win. I was poking at the Honorable Mentions for Twilight, and one of my entries is at #5! This time it was out of 156 entries, which makes it an even greater accomplishment. Personally, I think there were more entries because the Arianna art is so much cooler than the crappy picture of Panther we had for last week - only 78 entries for Zenith, after all. Harmonious Jade has a goofy pose in her art, so maybe there will be less competition for Night week.

This week, the Activities on Conceptart are all unified under one setting/story, so the environment of the week is the horrible facility where the critters are grown, and the character is the guy who hunts down the rejects that escape and run amok, etc.

Description: Mounted predator for hunters - A creature made by scientists by mixing genes of existing and extinct animals...there are also some mechanical/technical parts implemented in the predators organism. The predator must be able to be mounted and is carnivore, making him a living and very aggressive killer machine. We need to see something like a saddle, where the hunters can sit on, but you don't need to draw the hunter himself. The creatures full body must be seen.

And from the more lengthy write-up...

...the idea behind this new move is too harness the animals natural intelligence, sensory abilities, and ability to traverse difficult terrain.

...along with a note about fighting in confined areas. So I'm working on a critter with motorized wheels built onto its feet/appendages. I figure this lets it move at great speed, but unlike an actual vehicle it would be able to lift an appendage over an obstacle or actually climb. Now, this is all very well and good, but do you have any idea how hard it is to draw an animal with wheels on its feet that doesn't look freaking ridiculous? I've spent hours just trying to sketch out a design that doesn't make me cringe when I look at it, and I still haven't really succeeded, though the current one is certainly the best of them...which isn't saying much. Bleh. I don't know if it's time to scrap the concept or just plow ahead and endure the inevitable mockery. I do know that it's time to give up for the night at least, because it hasn't been fun for the last several hours, and the sun is coming up, and I just don't want to do this anymore. = P
