Maybe not everyone, but at least the guy who runs the place, and anyone who had contact with my car. I brought it in for my inspection sticker this morning, and it failed, supposedly due to a tie rod or something. They said they could fix that, in about 45 minutes, for about $80. Sure, I thought, I may as well. The mechanic that I trust couldn't see my car for 10 days last time I needed something checked, and I didn't want to be without transportation again for that long, so I thought I'd take a chance on these guys.

I get a call a bit later. "Oh, no, it's not the tie rod after all - it's the bearing assembly! That'll be $130 for parts, plus labor." Fine. Whatever. I'm already screwed, right? What can I say now? So then they proceed to have my car for something like 5 hours total out of the day, while I sit around getting more and more furious with myself for getting taken by these crooks. I just had my alignment done 2 weeks ago, and the mechanic didn't find this supposed problem. I called him and asked if he could have missed it, and he said it was possible, but he didn't think so. I told him where the car was, and his initial, unguarded reaction was...less than complimentary. He was very professional in his comments after that...he didn't come right out and say that they were screwing me, but he did imply that they probably replaced things just a bit before it might be strictly necessary to do so.

So I finally have my car back, and it cost me a mere $240 worth of imaginary repairs. The insult on top of the injury? I think they smoked in my car. At least, I think it smells like cigarette smoke, now. I wanted to get right back out of the car and scream at them. Maybe I should have. But I'm just so tired. I couldn't fall asleep last night at all. I gave up tossing and turning at 7:30 and got up to have breakfast. I've been awake for over 24 hours straight, and only my fury is keeping me awake right now.

I'm not given to uses of profanity. I think it's overused in our culture, and frequently unnecessary. I sure am tempted right now, though.

Want me to call them up and swear at them for you? :)

Even Livejournal has turned on me - it ate my somewhat lengthy reply. Short version: a very tempting offer. I'm going to wait and see what my father and/or brother have to say about the old parts, though. If they turn out to indeed been in need of replacing, some of today's frustrations are forgiven. If not, you have my full support in swearing at them until their minds unhinge from the shear magnitude of your cursing.

More hugs!

I sent you an e-mail too, but in case you read this first, call me if you want later tonight. I don't want to call and wake you up if you get a chance to snooze...
