LPF Week 7 - Steadfast
Nov. 29th, 2018 02:33 pmI love my job. Mostly it consists of just wandering around being scary, but I'm really good at it. And I love my boss! He's the best. And wow, what a great place to work! Who doesn't want to spend their nights roaming the grounds of a spooky old mansion filled with monsters and robots and tons of incredibly dangerous scientific equipment that fizzles and beeps and shoots lightning all over the place! It smells amazing!
I remember how exciting it was when I first got promoted! My first job involved chasing after balls and sticks and things, and occasionally barking at stuff. That was pretty great, but when I got promoted whole new worlds opened up to me! Did you know that there are colors?! I didn't even know they existed, and now thanks to the machines implanted in my head I can see them! Also, I'm pretty sure the machines implanted in my head are responsible for me being able to appreciate that I can see colors, and allow me to have complex ideas about abstract concepts. And one of them shoots lasers, which is also pretty neat.
I kind of miss my old paws, but now I've got opposable thumbs. Do you have any idea how much this has improved my ability to fetch sticks and balls? I mean, I don't get to spend a lot of time fetching sticks and balls anymore, but if I ever get to I am going to be so good at it. I can fetch more things, and bigger things! Heck, now that I've got this extra limb with a sawblade on the end I can cut down and fetch small trees! I hope my boss asks me to fetch him a tree someday. That would be great.
Like I said, though, mostly he just has me wander around the grounds, just inside the lightning moat. Oh yeah, I didn't tell you about the lightning moat! It's pretty great. It looks like it's just a big trench, but every once in a while lighting arcs from one side to the other. If it does that near me I run over and bark it at, which I think really adds to the effect.
What with me shambling around being terrifying and the electric moat and the fence covered in ivy that tries to strangle you, we don't really get very many intruders. That's okay, because I hate intruders. Like, really hate intruders, way more than I used to before the machines got put in my head. The only part of my job that I don't like is when intruders make it past the fence and the moat and I have to...do...stuff. I'd really rather use that saw blade to fetch my boss a tree. That would be great.
But mostly I love my job!
