I found this art contest Monday afternoon. To briefly summarize, all entries are renderings of his Exalted character, based on a provided description. After all entries are collected, visitors to the website vote for their favorite. Winner gets a copy of Aspect Book: Earth when it comes out. Sounds good, right? Only one catch - I've found about this a bit late, and all submissions must be in by Wednesday.

So...guess what I did for about 8 hours today? Here's my entry. Even if people visiting the site don't like it, or like something else more, at least I've got another piece for my portfolio. I'm really happy with how it turned out. However, the frantic pace at which I had to create it has left me a bit tired. I sleep soon.

I liked the illustration. And considering the other sketches that have been submitted to the contest, I think your chances of winning are pretty darn good. Your drawing definitely adhered more to the general concept of the character as described in the text.

I suspect this sort of high-stress deadline sort of thing is a good thing to practice with - from what I've heard, in the professional art world, quick deadlines are pretty common.

Yeah, the deadline practice is good. Within certain limits, I tend to do well under pressure.

Glad you liked mine. I like mine, but since it's all going to based on voting from site visitors, it's all up to what they like. Perhaps they'll prefer one of the more dynamic ones or something. I don't want to get my hopes up too high. Either way, I'm glad I spent the time on it.

He's nifty. I particularly like the club. His face looks familiar though... is he loosely based on your brother?

Well, tecnically that's a "firewand," the Exalted pseudo-gun, not a club. "The firewand is shaped more like a short staff instead of the traditional firewand. The muzzle looks like the open maw of a celestial lion’s head with hearth stones in the eye sockets. Still, I made mine spiky enough that I'm sure you could effectively club people with it.
