I thought my FTP needs were filled by the kind-of-eccentric-yet-mostly-functional Coffecup FTP utility. Nope - it's expired. I could have sworn when I downloaded the thing that it was just plain free, not free for a few days. It appears that I was mistaken. I wasn't delighted with it, but I figured it was better than nothing. However, no way am I paying to keep using the thing - if I'm going to have to buy an FTP utility, I'm damn well going to buy one that doesn't disconnect me if I look away for 10 seconds.

Can anyone point me to a free (or cheap) FTP utility? I'm getting really tired of not being able to reliably update my website.

I haven't personally used any of these, so I can't vouch for their quality, but there are a set of links at http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Software/FTP_freeware/.

If those don't suit, I got a pretty good set of hits (including that one) by googling for "freeware ftp".

I tried that search myself a while back...that's actually how I found The Accursed CoffeeCup Lie. I'm currently trying FTP Commander, which I found on the list you linked to. It seems to connect okay, at least. Time will tell if it reliably sends files.

I'm not a random weirdo btw... I'm in userpics with ya ^^

Whew! As long as you're a specific weirdo, that's okay. = ) Thanks for the suggestion - I'll give that a try and compare it to the other suggested utility.
