As I've mentioned before, I work on the [livejournal.com profile] userpics team, supplying user icons for Livejournal users. Often, this is interesting work and fun practice, and people really appreciate what we do. I frequently get sincere "thank you" replies from people, and it's very rewarding. However, things do not always turn out so well.

I recently took a request from a certain user, who shall remain nameless. I sent this user my first attempt to fill her request (mentioning that I would cheerfully try again if it wasn't to her liking), and heard nothing from her for a few days. Sometimes people don't write back, of course, but sometimes there are also problems with email. I like to make sure the user at least got what I sent them, so if I don't hear back from the user I like to check and see if they're using the icon. I checked up on the user, and saw that she wasn't using the icon, so I tried sending it again in case there was a problem the first time, and then waited again. Still nothing. Fearing that my email just wasn't getting through at all, I commented on her journal with a link to the picture, saying that I was afraid my emails weren't getting through, and offering to try again if she didn't like what I put together for her.

Today I thought I'd check again, and I saw that she has a new icon, but still isn't using the one I sent, and still hadn't written back at all. It was becoming more and more likely that she was just ignoring me completely. The proof of this was a real kick in the teeth, though - she deleted my comment. So she knows how hard I've been trying to get in touch with her, and that I'd try again to fill her request, but won't even admit that I exist. What the hell?

That was rude of them. It's too bad you can't tell right away which requesters lack basic etiquette.

Maybe they were raised by wild animals though? I hate them people what were raised by wild critters.

Some people deal with the awkward by simply being inconsiderate and rude - instead of being up-front and saying, "Gee - this icon isn't really me..thanks anyways" she took a more passive-aggresive tact.

I'm sorry that some people lack basic consideration.

I appreciate your mad icon-making skillz! =)

I just felt obliged to say that. Thanks again, BTW, for my icon!

You are very welcome. = ) Yours was a pleasure to create, and you were much more pleasant to deal with. I'm really glad you like it, too.
