I am now the proud owner of a technologically obsolete digital camera. At the venerable age of 5 years, it would likely be scorned and mocked by any camera currently on the market. However, it has 2 very redeeming qualities: A) It was really cheap, and B) It's the only digital camera that I own. I've wanted a digital camera for ages, so I could do weird experimental things with Photoshop, take reference pictures for illustrations, and keep a record of how fast some of my plants are growing over time. This camera will do all of those things, all for a tiny fraction of what it cost me to get my car back from the mechanic last week. What more could I ask for?

I mock your camera. ;)

Actually any digital camera is pretty cool. I wonder how many megapixels it has?

I was VERY surprised at the difference between my Sony and my new Minolta. The Minolta's 3.2 megapixels really rocks. I'm especially enjoying taking photos of things up close. Like those dragonfly pics I sent you. :D I also like how unobtrusive and portable it is.

Then again you can't beat the quality inherent in a huge ass digital camera.

I weep at your mocking. The despair! The shame!

It's a mere .31 Megapixel. Like I said, it's 5 years old. Your camera is indeed a miracle device compared to it, since your camera is smaller, faster, and holds more pictures of higher quality than mine. And, if I find that I use the camera really, really often, perhaps I'll one day get one like yours. Until then, this was a cheap way to find out if I'll actually use such a thing enough to justify buying a nice one...like yours. = )

I hope you find that you use it. I know I wish I used mine more. I took it with me to the Big E and got some random crowd and animal pictures.

Strangely when I had the flash on one sheep's eyes appeared to be glowing blue!

My next picture taking goal is fall foliage. I'd like to go up to Vermont and get some shots of the hills covered in dying leaves. ;)

Walden Pond also looks nice in Fall, and is very conveniently located.

5, no 3 redeeming qualities...

You forgot redeeming quality C) it takes a floppy disk which doesn't require you to buy an additional memory card reader and/or media. (You can spend the money you saved getting a charger :)

That one's sort of a blessing and a curse - it means not much space for actually taking pictures, and dooms them to small file size. You're right, though - I love that it doesn't require me to string up cords or buy a miniature disk drive for memory cards.

Actually I think memory cards is one of the best things to happen to the digital cameras. They're FAST and BIG in memory but small in size.

I prefer them over the little CDs too.

Oh no, I completely agree that memory cards are awesome. But seeing as this was an economy purchase, I'm glad I didn't need to buy a drive for memory cards for this camera. Hence it being both a blessing and a curse.
